The most sustainable product is the one that already exists.

The most sustainable product is the one that already exists.

The most sustainable product is the one that already exists. With no need for new materials or manufacturing processes and therefore no additional environmental burden.

That’s the principle behind MUTTS Archive, our new pre-owned collection built on the idea that well-made dog products deserve to be used again, rather than discarded.

In 2022, we threw away around 1.45 million tonnes of used textiles, and almost half went straight into household bins rather than being donated or resold.

Extending the life of a product by just nine months reduces its carbon, water and waste footprint by 20-30%, and when people do buy preloved, research shows they tend to hold onto things considerably longer - 5.4 years on average compared to 4 years for new purchases, reducing the impact of that piece even further.

Buying second-hand instead of new carries up to 42% lower climate impact, which matters when you consider that UK textile manufacturing produced 1.14 million metric tons of CO2 in 2022. When something already made gets used for longer, that production burden doesn’t need repeating.

Most dog gear is made primarily from textiles. Collars, harnesses, leads, coats and beds are dominated by nylon and polyester, with polyester accounting for roughly 57% of all fibres used globally, so the same environmental considerations that apply to clothing apply equally here.

While the environmental conversation around pets often focuses on food (which accounts for the largest share of impact), the products we use with our dogs matter as well. Between 58-62% of people in the UK own a pet, and choosing second-hand for the gear they use daily is one straightforward way to reduce environmental impact.

We’re proud to introduce MUTTS Archive. These are beautifully designed products built to last, still functioning as intended after years of use. Finding something well made that has genuinely lasted is satisfying in a way that buying new rarely matches, and MUTTS Archive came from wanting to bring that same approach to dog products.

Each piece is one of a kind.
